Lacrosse Teams Highlight Spring Sports Season

Both the Boys and Girls lacrosse teams reached the State Class B Finals, both playing their opponents on Saturday, June 15th at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. Coincidentally, both teams lost by scores of 7-4.

Another highlight of the season was the selection of both the Boys tennis team and the baseball team for the Western Class B Sportsmanship Awards. Recently the MSPA has expanded the Sportsmanship Award to all sports. The recipient is selected by vote of the players on the opposing teams, so to receive the award is a real honor. Here is a summary of the spring results.

Baseball - Recorded a record of 10-6 in the regular season. Qualified for the Western Class B tournament and lost to York to the Quarterfinals.

Softball - Had an 8-8 record in regular season. Beat Moutain Valley in a Preliminary game, then lost to Greely in the Quarterfinals of the Western Class B tournament.

Boys Lacrosse - Beat archrivals Falmoth and NYA twice each during the regular season in posting a 9-3 season, Could not get by Cape Elizabeth, losing to the Capers twice in the regular season and again in the State Class B championship.

Girls Lacrosse - Playing most of their games against teams in the tougher Western Class B region, the team finished the regular season with a record of 5-7. They won the Eastern Class B Regionals by defeating Freeport in the Semis and Morse in the Finals. In the State Championship they lost to undefeated Waynflete for the third time in the season.

Boys Outdoor Track The team continues to add depth and improve. They finished fourth of eight schools in the WMC meet, and 13th of 27 schools in the State Class B meet. Ben Decker '14 placed second in the two mile and qualified for the New England meet.

Girls Outdoor Track The team tied for third in the WMC meet, and 13th of 25 schools in the State Class B meet. Emma Egan '16, daugter of Cynthia Flanders '89, was the high scorer for the team all season in sprints and the long jump, winning those events in some regular season meets and placing in the State meet.
